A long and tenacious battle ensued mainly amongst the upper class women of the era who were led by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. The Women's Suffrage Movement formed, and women across America demanded the right to vote. Their protests were successful.

The Nineteeth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution gave women the right to vote by the Fall of 1920. Women have been able to vote in the United States for under 90 years.
